Trip Overview

Embark on an unforgettable 3 days Mount Meru trekking experience through the heart of Arusha National Park. Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at your hotel in Arusha, followed by a detailed pre-climb briefing by our experienced mountain guides. The trek starts at Momela Gate, leading you through lush montane forests, wildlife-rich trails, and up to the scenic heights of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain.

Throughout the journey, you’ll be accompanied by an armed ranger for safety as you encounter giraffes, buffalo, zebras, monkeys, and more. Traverse the ridges and admire views of the Ash Cone, Meru Crater, and eventually summit at Socialist Peak (4,566m)—an awe-inspiring spot where you’ll witness a magical sunrise and panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.

After your descent, return to your hotel in Moshi for a well-earned rest. Optional add-ons include Mount Kilimanjaro climbing, Tanzania safaris, or a beach escape to Zanzibar.

Itinerary – Day by Day

Day 1: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut

Altitude: 1,387 m to 2,514 m
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

Begin the trek with a transfer to Momela Gate, where registration is completed. Meet your porter and ranger team and start hiking through lush Montane Forest, with frequent wildlife sightings including elephants, zebras, giraffes, and monkeys.

The trail gently ascends to Miriakamba Hut, offering plenty of time to acclimatize and enjoy the views.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (Optional Little Meru Hike)

Altitude: 2,514 m to 3,570 m
Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 3–5 hours

After breakfast, ascend along a steeper trail towards Saddle Hut, passing open grasslands and striking views of Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Enjoy a hot lunch upon arrival.

In the afternoon, opt for a short acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for stunning views across the park.

Overnight at Saddle Hut (Full board)

Day 3: Summit – Socialist Peak & Descent to Momela Gate

Altitude: 3,570 m to 4,566 m (summit)
Distance: 5 km up / 13 km down
Hiking Time: 12–14 hours

Your summit day begins just after midnight. Hike via Rhino Point (3,800 m) and Cobra Point (4,350 m) before reaching Socialist Peak in time for sunrise. The views are dramatic—Mount Kilimanjaro floating above the clouds and the rugged Meru Crater below.

After celebrating at the top, descend to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue down to Momela Gate, where a transfer awaits to take you back to Arusha city.
